According to multiple sources, including The Economist and Bloomberg, 2024 is set to become the biggest election year in history which will bring 40+ national elections around the world including India and the US.
So how significant are these elections and how these could change the world? Let’s find out!

                                                                List of Countries

How significant are these elections?

Bloomberg reported that voters in countries representing 41% of the world’s population and 42% of its gross domestic product(GDP) have a chance to elect new leaders next year.

Starting with Taiwan in January and running through the US presidential election in November, the year will bring 40+ national elections—a busy lineup even in not-so calmer political times.

A testing time for the world?

The world economy is suffering from one shock to another as two brutal wars, stubborn inflation and high borrowing costs hold back the post-pandemic recovery. The next source of turbulence in the polycrisis era: a packed 2024 election calendar.

And interestingly, eight of the ten most populous countries in the world, including, India, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia and the United States will hold elections in 2024.

The Global Impact

Now since these elections would range from European Union parliamentary elections to a general election that will decide the next leader of rising powerhouse India, their outcome could be significant, affecting geopolitical stability, economic outlook, and global market volatility.

The elections in 2024 will require social media platforms and generative AI developers to play a crucial role in protecting democracy online.
