All you need to know…
What happened at the meet?
Attended by 12 member parties, the I.N.D.I.A. bloc in its first meeting of the coordination committee, decided to “start the process of seat sharing”.
The member parties will hold talks and decide the process "at the earliest". The committee has also decided to take up the issue of caste census.
Why boycott News Anchors?
The Opposition alliance has also released a list of 14 TV anchors and their shows to boycott, accusing them of conducting “hate-filled” news debates, biased coverage, and negative narratives.
Congress media department chairperson Pawan Khera said, “Everyday at 5 pm, a market of hatred is put up on some channels. It has been happening for the last 9 years”.
Who are these anchors?
- Aman Chopra, Amish Devgan and Anand Narasimhan of News 18
- Chitra Tripathi and Sudhir Chaudhary of Aaj Tak
- Gaurav Sawant and Shiv Aroor of India Today
- Prachi Parashar of India TV
- Arnab Goswami of Republic Bharat
- Rubika Liaquat of Bharat 24
- Navika Kumar and Sushant Sinha of Times Now Navbharat
- Aditi Tyagi of Bharat Express
- Ashok Srivastav of DD News
Bottomline
This move follows a pattern of similar actions like the Congress party's one-month boycott of television shows in May 2019 as a protest against unfair coverage, per The Times of India.
The decision also aims to counteract the ruling party's narrative, which some opposition parties have accused of being disseminated by certain media houses and anchors.
