The alleged sex scandal involving Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, has recently come to light, sparking outrage and raising several questions about the timing and circumstances surrounding the revelations.

Gag Order and Suppressed Information

One of the earliest public references to the videos was made by Prajwal Revanna himself in a suit filed in a Bengaluru civil court on June 1, 2023, against 86 media outlets and three private persons. The suit sought a gag order, which was granted on June 2, 2023, restricting the publication and circulation of "fake news" and "morphed photographs/video" against him. This gag order likely suppressed the story from being widely reported earlier.

Alleged Involvement of Former Driver

According to reports, Prajwal's former driver, who had access to his phones and electronic devices, reportedly had the videos and began threatening him after leaving the Revanna family's service in March 2023. The driver also filed a police complaint in December 2023, alleging he was kidnapped by Prajwal and his mother. It's possible the driver circulated the

videos in Hassan constituency earlier this year.

Timing of Video Distribution

The videos were distributed through hundreds of pen drives in Hassan just a day before the April 26, 2024 Lok Sabha polls. This strategic timing likely amplified the impact and public attention.

Political Implications and Investigations

The Karnataka government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the videos. Several key persons from Hassan, including Prajwal's political rivals and the former driver, are likely to be investigated to establish the authenticity of the videos.

The BJP has distanced itself from Prajwal Revanna, while the Congress is seeking to politicize the issue for gains in other regions. However, it's worth noting that the Congress was in alliance with JD(S) and running the government in the state in 2018-19, when the alleged scandal is believed to have begun.

Unanswered Questions:

The revelations raise several questions that need to be addressed:

  1. Why did it take months for the scandal to come to light, despite the videos reportedly circulating since last year?
  2. What role did the gag order play in suppressing the story, and why was it granted in the first place?
  3. How did the videos end up in the possession of Prajwal's former driver, and what are the implications of his alleged involvement?
  4. What impact will the scandal have on Prajwal Revanna's political career and the JD(S)-BJP alliance in Karnataka?

As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial that the truth comes to light and justice is served, regardless of the political implications. The victims deserve to have their voices heard, and the public deserves to know the facts behind this.
