The horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College has revealed a dark legacy of abuse, trafficking, rape, and unexplained deaths within the institution. Over the years, the college has been brewing several controversies, with unusual cases of student suicides and cover-ups.

On 25th August 2024, the CBI raided the college’s former principal, Sandeep Ghosh’s house and when asked, an official said “Bahut kuch hai”.
According to critical evidence, this claim seems to be accurate if we take a look back at what this institute has been brewing for over 138 years. From taking bribes, deliberately failing students, running a sex racket, shooting adult videos, selling biomedical waste internationally, ‘selling’ corpses, and unnatural deaths, the list is long enough to prove that the institute has been involved in various criminal scandals.
What’s even more surprising about these allegations are the cover-ups and the clout of the principal; brushing everything under the carpet.
Bizzare Cases From The Past
2001: A student was found hanging in his hostel room, as he allegedly challenged the sex racket & unconsented prostitution - the case remains unresolved
2003: An MBBS intern died after he ‘jumped’ from the hostel building. Police claimed the student injected antidepressants and sliced his veins before jumping off the roof - no suicide note was found; the case was closed
2016 - A missing college professor’s decomposed body was found in his apartment - blood stains & bruises were reported
2020 - A doctor of the college allegedly committed suicide by ‘jumping’ off the emergency building - no suicide was recovered
2023 - An intern died of 'drug overdose' - a case of unnatural death was registered with the police
2024 - A 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and brutally murdered - postmortem revealed serious injuries, forceful penetration, and manual strangulation
Sandeep Ghosh and his “unimaginable illegalities”
Coming to 2024’s rape & murder case that sparked nationwide panic, the CBI has uncovered shocking substantial evidence of criminal activities under Sandeep Ghosh’s watch.
He has been accused of almost nauseating actions like selling unclaimed dead bodies, reportedly sold to individuals with better security clearances, and then exported. This man was also trafficking biomedical waste and other medical supplies to Bangladesh.
The influence he had made it easy for him to simply continue & not be charged. When a former deputy superintendent of RG Kar exposed his sinister operations, no action was taken against him.
In return, Ali was transferred the very day he submitted his report.
A well-known ‘mafia raja’
As suspicions were rising against him for being involved in the cover-up of the 2024 rape case, he resigned from RG Kar Medical, but within hours got reappointed elsewhere
This got him under the eyes of the public and the police, as he always “managed the situations”.
He used to have 20 personal security guards and 4 bouncers & allegedly had contacts with the Trinamool Congress.
The crimes within his home’s walls
Ghosh’s neighbours had also claimed that he used to assault his wife, especially witnessing the abuse 14 days after she gave birth. This situation tore the wife’s Caesarean stitches and she severely bled.
These tragic events and the unexplained history of strange deaths have gotten all eyes on Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. People feel disheartened that it took a barbarous rape & murder for its dark side to come out.
Even after these cases made the headlines over the decades, nobody seemed interested in diving in.
Even when the recent case happened, the family was told that it was a suicide, and only after further investigation, they uncovered the reality.
The institution thought they could get away with this case too but all these unsolved & unusual cases smell of something way shadier.
