Even before the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected MPs, the NDA is embroiled in controversy. The uproar over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG and NET examinations has sent shockwaves through the nation.

As the first session of the Parliament, after the Modi 3.0 government taking oath, started yesterday, it is going to be pivotal for the ruling NDA and as well as for the opposition with the election of the Speaker addressing the coalition partners' demands, and more important events.

Election Of The New Lok Sabha Speaker

Prime Minister Modi is expected to propose a consensus candidate tomorrow (June 25), continuing the tradition of electing Speakers with unanimous support. The BJP, as the single largest party with 240 seats, is in a strong position to retain the Speaker's post.

However, the opposition INDIA bloc has signaled it may field a candidate if the deputy Speaker post is not offered to them. If this happens then it’ll be the first instance in the history of independent India that the Lok Sabha speaker will be elected following an election and not unanimously.

Unveiling The First Full Budget Of The New NDA Government

This 1st session will run until July 3, 2024. The session is expected to go into a brief recess after July 3 and re-assemble on July 22 for the presentation of the Union Budget,  which will be a key focus of the session.

With the BJP falling short of a majority, the budget will need to balance the demands of its allies like JD(U) and TDP, who together won 28 seats. The budget will set the economic agenda for Modi 3.0 and will be closely watched for policy direction and reforms.

Handling Opposition Attacks On Controversies

The opposition is preparing a powerful attack on the government over the alleged stock market manipulation, paper leaks and other controversies. The opposition will seek to hold the government accountable and push for greater transparency.

Some of the BJP's key policy agenda items like the One Nation One Election, UCC, NRC may face more resistance with a bigger and stronger opposition now. The handling of these issues will be a key test for the NDA government.

Navigating Coalition Challenges

Running a coalition government will present new challenges for the BJP, as it lacks an outright majority this time. Managing the demands and expectations of its allies will require deft political maneuvering.

The BJP will need to ensure that its policy agendas (former and upcoming), like CAA, UCC, NRC, and Agnipath scheme are aligned with the priorities of its coalition partners. Failure to do so could lead to cracks in the alliance and political instability.

Even before the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected MPs, the NDA is embroiled in controversy. The uproar over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG and NET examinations has sent shockwaves through the nation’s academic circles, affecting lakhs of students and potentially derailing many futures.

The first session of parliament in Modi 3.0 will be a crucial test for the government as it faces a stronger opposition and the compulsions of running a coalition. Managing these challenges while pushing its policy agenda will be the key focus areas.
